NII STALI started research in this area as far
back as in 1954.
By the beginning of 1960s on Semipalatinsk test
range T-55 and T-10M tanks were tested which were fitted with
antiradiation protection designed by NII STALI in cooperation
with a number of institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences
and the main tank design bureaus. Starting from T-64B MBT
all subsequent tanks were equipped with antiradiation protection
designed by NII STALI.
Chernobyl accident issued a new challenge: the
personnel operating under conditions of severe radiation contamination
should not only stay alive, but also preserve their health.
For that antiradiation protection was required which would
attenuate radiation doses not by dozens but by hundreds and
thousands of times. Such protection was designed by NII STALI
and used for liquidation of Chernobyl accident.
Lately a new research direction has been formed
related to environment preservation, ecological problems,
nuclear waste processing. Ecologically clean lead-free X-ray
protective materials , protective ensembles for radiologists,
unique research in nuclear waste processing and ecologically
clean nuclear power complexes - these are just some of new
developments of NII STALI in this area.

· PYLNIK (DUSTER) disposable cape (NO-01)
GAMMA-1 protective vest (ZhZI-02-GI)
Status: Tailor-made
|
 |
|
GAMMA-1 protective vest is a means of
personal protection against gamma-radiation and can
be used by the personnel of special-purpose units and
rescue teams during operations in accidents at nuclear
power facilities.
The vest ensures protection of the abdomen,
gonads, backbone and pelvis bones.
PYLNIK cape is a means of protection against
radioactive dust, acid and alkaline solutions. It protects
operator's GAMMA-1 vest, body and arms against radioactive
substances and aggressive media.
