Dear
Visitors,
A thaw in international relations between Russia and
other countries has not reduced the probability of military conflicts.
Moreover, such threat has become even more probable because of the
intensification of the international terrorism, which has stepped
on the path of overt armed confrontation.
Another big threat for the humanity today is the increased
risk of man-caused catastrophes whose destructive effects are comparable
to those of large-scale military conflicts.
These are the main challenges which protection designers
have to deal with in their effort to ensure safety and survivability
of the personnel and equipment.
Joint stock company "NII Stali" has been
engaged in design and production of protection systems for more
than 60 years, and though our main focus has always been armor protection
of combat vehicles, we also design and manufacture a wide range
of personal protection equipment (body armor, ballistic helmets
etc.), protection systems for mobile missile complexes, highly protected
special-purpose carriages, protection of VIP offices, radiation
protection garments etc.
All products designed by our company are a result
of comprehensive research.
By visiting our web-site you have a good chance to
learn more about out activities and products.

NII Stali participated in the exhibition of police equipment
INTER-POLITEX-2007 that was held at Russian Exhibition Centre
(VVC), Moscow from October, 30 to November, 2.
This exhibition took an important place among similar international
forums with a record number of participants, a lot of them
from abroad.
All of the foreign guests appreciated the considerable
improvement of Russian engineering standards and considered
many of new products to have reached the international level.
It means that a lot of enterprises working in the security
field not only could survive, but also secured their position
and started financing new projects.

In June 2007 NII Stali participated in the VII-th
International Exhibition of Military Equipment, Technology
and Armament (VTTV-Omsk-2007).
There were rather few new products related to
armored vehicle protection or anti-tank weapons.
At that exhibition NII STALI presented training
software for T-90 MBT and BMP-3 IFV.

· In May NII STALI participated in the MILEX-2007
IV-th international exhibition of military equipment (Minsk,
Byelorussia).
The exhibition was held in the usual exhibition
area of BELEXPO. There were not any significant changes in
the exhibition ideology. The number of exhibitors reduced
almost twice as compared to 2003, including foreign one. But
the number of foreign delegations accredited at the exhibition
increased more than thrice and amounted to 50.
As compared to previous exhibitions at MILEX-2007
there were fewer products related to armored vehicles protection.
Most exhibits belonged to IT, optics and electronics. Fewer
products belonged to weapons, ammunition and personalprotection
equipment. And there were very few novelties in protection
systems.
NII STALI НИИ had a common stand with the Institute
of Applied Nano Technologies and demonstrated a number of
new products with application of nano technologies to body
armor.

Is
there any future for the MBT?
The answer to this question was a most interesting
one of the issues on agenda of the traditional 8. Research-and-Application
Conference "Urgent Security Problems" which was
held in St. Petersburg in early April 2006 (organized by NPO
"Spetsmaterialy").
The conference was first held eight years ago,
when it was dedicated to thorough discussion of body armor.
Recently the range of issues discussed at the conference has
been widened and now includes protection of combat vehicles.
This year, after the much-talked-of interviews
of Mr. Serguey Ivanov, Minister of Defence of RF, and some
Army high-rank officials the position of the MBT as a self-contained
armament system of the Army has staggered. Therefore the response
of the tank-building community was expected.
Some speakers at this conference managed to
bring out clearly that MBTs do have a future. You
can see one of the reports here (in Russian).
The same issue is discussed in the article "Is
there a need for tanks in modern warfare" published
in "Armament. Politics. Conversion." (2001, No.1).
